The story of the goddess Chandi, as told by Sage Medha Maharshi to King Suradhudu and the merchant Samadhi, narrates how the goddess defeated the demons Mahishasura, Dhumralochana, Rakta Beej, Chanda and Munda, and how she protected the gods and the people. It is said that merely listening to this puranic tale grants numerous boons to the devotees. Reciting the Devi Mahatmyam protects us from the demonic qualities present in the people around us. The great Devi also bestowed blessings upon the king, the merchant, who heard the story and the sage who told the story.
Those who recite this magnificent Devi Mahatmyam will have all their troubles removed, and all their endeavors will be fulfilled. This goddess’s greatness can be recited at any time throughout the 365 days of the year.
